![]() ![]() While Auto-Tune’s Automatic Mode can produce brilliant results, it is seldom completely transparent even on a very good vocal performance. ![]() There are also some new hide/show options that can de-clutter the Auto-Tune window or make it more compact. For example, all the editing tools are now active during playback, and when you move Note objects, you can hear a pitched tone as you drag a note up or down to assist you in selecting the required pitch. In Graphical Mode, Auto-Tune 8 brings a number of operational enhancements. Second, Auto-Tune 8 introduces a new low-latency mode which allows a singer to monitor his or her performance in real time with Auto-Tune 8’s automatic pitch-correction applied. ![]() ![]() First, a new Flex-Tune option has been added that, rather like some MIDI quantise systems, allows you to apply pitch-correction only when the pitch is close to a scale note other audio is left unprocessed. You can, however, run version 8 and earlier Auto-Tune versions side-by-side in the same project, so this is not a significant issue to work around.Ĭore processing algorithms aside, Automatic Mode has two new headline features. Well, manipulating the pitch and timing of vocals while still managing to create a natural-sounding result requires complex digital signal processing, and Antares have continued to refine and improve the core technology that underlies Auto-Tune - to the point where if you have projects based upon Evo (v6) or earlier, Auto-Tune 8 will not open them. Add in various MIDI-related features and we have a pretty sophisticated tool set.Īuto-Tune 8 running in Graphical Mode within Cubase Pro 8.You might, then, be wondering exactly what else there is left to do in terms of basic pitch-correction. While only one of these tools can be active at any point on the timeline, you can mix and match them as required within a single editing session in order to craft the best result.įor a number of iterations, Auto-Tune has also offered the ability to adjust formants, and has featured basic throat modelling that allows you to shift the gender character of the voice, as well as global pitch transposition and the ability to adjust timing in some fairly surgical ways. Since the Evo release (in essence Auto-Tune 6, reviewed in March 2009: Graphical Mode offers you the choice of three means of controlling the pitch: curves, lines or notes. However, if a ‘set and forget’ approach doesn’t get the job done, then Auto-Tune also offers a Graphical Mode. This can be simply a case of tweaking a few key settings to taste and then letting the plug-in work its magic, and if your vocal is reasonably solid to start with, Auto-Tune’s Automatic Mode will just tighten the intonation up as much (or as little) as you require. Correct Me If I’m WrongĪuto-Tune derives its name from its ability to automatically correct the pitch of monophonic audio such as vocals. Auto-Tune is, however, still an industry standard, and the new version 8 includes a number of new features. Almost every top-end DAW includes its own pitch-correction tools and, as summarised in the Alternatives box, there are a number of very creditable third-party options also. Of course, just as Hoover have plenty of competition when it comes to sucking up dust from your floor, Auto-Tune is now far from the only game in town when it comes to pitch-correction. Revolutionary when it first appeared in 1997, the brand name has become synonymous with pitch-correction, and many producers will now simply ask the engineer or Pro Tools operator to ‘Auto-Tune it’ - meaning, of course, to apply pitch-correction - when they think a vocal has intonation issues that require attention. The classic example is the Hoover vacuum cleaner, but in the world of music technology, the same thing has happened with Auto-Tune. Some items of technology have acquired such an iconic status that the product name has become a verb. How does the new version shape up against the competition? Auto-Tune is said to be the biggest-selling plug-in of all time. ![]() ![]() If you’re planning on creating a digital file to share with friends or colleagues, you may want an 11 wide by 8.5 high document (which is the default landscape size for books). I strongly, strongly recommend getting one of these instead of the regular cheapo float switches.įinally, the most annoying problem is these things are basically big grease traps. These are cheap and easy to replace, but it's still a pain, and you likely won't notice till sewage starts backing up (I would recommend getting some kind of alarm to detect this before it quite overflows, though I never got around to it). What is much more likely to fail is the float switch that turns it on and off. If you get a good quality one, it should last a pretty long time though, like a couple of decades most likely. You can pay a plumber to do it, but the second time mine failed, I just did it myself, wasn't actually too hard, but kinda gross. Getting estimates from ejector pump installersīefore hiring a local plumber or sewer service near you, follow these steps: During the inspection, a plumber will clean the pump and oil the motor to make sure it runs properly. Sewage ejector pumps shouldn't need any regular maintenance besides a yearly inspection as long as you're careful about what you flush. What maintenance does a sewage ejector pump need? Don't flush too much at once, and never flush wet wipes or feminine products. To help your pump last longer, prevent clogs by only flushing moderate amounts of toilet paper. How long does an ejector pump last?Įjector pumps last 7 to 10 years on average but can last 20 to 30 years with regular inspections and proper usage. Smaller models can handle a single bathroom or washing machine, while larger pumps can handle multiple bathrooms. Without a pump, gravity will eventually cause an overflow. If you have plumbing in a basement or below the level of the community sewer line, you will need a sewer ejector pump. Once the contents reach high enough to lift the float, the pump turns on and forces the waste into the main sewer line. Homes with bathrooms and washing machines in the basement or septic tanks need an ejector pump to make sure the sewage system doesn't get backed up.Įjector pumps sit in a pit in the basement with a float attached, similar to a toilet tank. Sewer ejector pump FAQs What is an ejector pump?Ī sewage ejector pump is a sewer system pump that helps remove waste from basement drains. Voltage – Pumps are typically either 120V or 230V. ![]() The following factors affect the installation cost: ![]() ![]() ![]() The reason that's possible is that the UEFI spec defines a standard bootloader path of \EFI\Boot\Boot圆4.efi, so if a local storage device contains a partition that has that file at that location, it appears in the F12 menu - but not all systems will dynamically populate their "permanent" boot order options that way. The reason is that whereas the local storage boot order options on a UEFI system only show paths that have been registered into the firmware, the F12 boot menu is created dynamically based on the devices that are connected at the time. I've read that in some cases you can end up with your system not booting from the new drive automatically, even though if you access the one-time boot menu by pressing F12 during startup, the new drive will be shown there and your system will boot properly if you select it. Windows Setup will perform this registration automatically as part of its install onto a new drive, but cloning solutions might not do the same. UEFI systems when booting local storage like hard drives and flash drives boot from a particular file, and consequently a UEFI boot entry is a path to a specific file on a specific partition of a specific device - and that path needs to get registered into the UEFI firmware in order to appear in the boot option list. With Legacy BIOS systems, you simply choose to boot from a particular device, so the boot list on a Legacy system simply contains all devices they can see at any given time. The reason is that UEFI works very differently from Legacy BIOS when it comes to boot options. With Acronis, I'm saying that you might not see your newly cloned SSD as an option in your boot list at all, even if it's the only drive installed. And the potential Acronis issue has nothing to do with whether multiple drives are installed. That's true regardless of what cloning application you use. The multiple drive issue is simply that it's easier and safer to try booting your system with only your new drive connected after a clone, at least initially. The multiple drive issue and Acronis issue are completely separate. So what you are saying is with acronis there is a chance it may be difficult to switch boot priorities with both drives in?Īlso, if I do remove my hdd when I plug it back in would there be any issues with the boot priority going back to the hdd or I should be okay? ![]() When you say that do you mean I should boot from the ssd and then immediately after format my for the reply. ![]() How exactly can I change the boot priority? I have done a bit of research on these forums and I do understand some of the setting in bios but not all. ![]() ![]() ![]() This release date was probably chosen because Sega knew that it had a special weapon to challenge the Nintendo 16-bit console. It was released in Japan in November 21, 1990, which is exactly the same day as the Super Famicom came out. When Castle of Illusion was released back in 1990, there was nothing like it. They are both unique and excellent games, and I think they are two of the best Mickey Mouse games of all time, to be released in any console. I have recently joined the forum and this topic is about two of my all-time favorite 16-bit games. I am kind of resurrecting this year-old post, but I could not help myself. Sadly, that DLC doesn't appear to be available nowadays, so it seems your best bet is when the upcoming MD/Genesis Mini hits, as Seven Force mentioned. Neither version featured the Genesis' boss battle theme, which was disappointing.Īnd Zero83, as for your inquiry if the original Mega Drive/Genesis version is available on current hardware, the only time I remember the game being available as such was as a PS3-exclusive DLC pre-order bonus when the 2013 remake first came out. The 2013 remake was also a decent re-imagining, though the controls were a little loose for my taste, and I was let down by the newly arranged score. That excellent music score plays a huge part, but just playing through the game again and hitting those moments - butt-bouncing off of that first enemy mushroom, fighting the rolling oak tree boss, hitting that reverse-polarity switch in Toy Land and insta-killing those toy soldiers and unicycle-riding clowns, entering the bottle of milk in the middle of the Library stage and being transported to that crazy colorful Dessert Land sub-level, and using the six Infinity Stones Seven Gems of the Rainbow to cross over to the final fight against a formidable Mizrabel - it's pure joy.Īs for the other versions of the game, I had played the SMS port a number of times, and as its own entity, I certainly enjoyed it. True, Illusion's gameplay may be more rudimentary, and it doesn't look quite as good visually, but when it comes to making up the better part of my fondest gaming memories, it's unmatched. In the end, while it seems like Magical Quest should win out, I've gotta give the edge to Castle of Illusion. It's a fairly simple piece of music, but its frenetic pace and adrenaline-driving final part is so, so memorable: View: It's the boss theme, though, that left the most indelible impression on me. Every stage is bursting with catchy melodies: The Enchanted Forest, Toy Land, and, my personal favorite, the epic-driven Storm. When it comes to the music, however, Castle of Illusion is the clear-cut winner. I would have loved an entire MM game built on this mechanic alone. You have no idea how much I always looked forward to getting to the Pete's Peak stage, and utilizing Mickey's Bionic Commando-style mountaineering skills. Magical Quest feels tighter and offers more gameplay variety with its grab 'n toss mechanic, coupled with the costume switching system. As jett and EarthPainting stated, Castle of Illusion can be construed as slow and basic - and as Treasure Silvergun also mentions, the sluggier moving Mickey can feel inertia-inducing at times. ![]() In terms of gameplay, Magical Quest also feels like the better of the two. The extra opportunities for graphical variety, like when he goes into his ducking position, prepares for a butt-bounce, or stands perilously on the tip of a ledge, really do add more personality to the character. He's far more expressive in Illusion, with several more frames of animation when he's walking around, or even when he's swaying to and fro during his standing pose. One area where the graphics excel in Castle of Illusion, however, as Ja圜eeJim mentioned, is in Mickey's animations. As Hayama Akito mentioned, it is a beautiful looking game from the first stage's lush greenery vines and billowy clouds, the Fire Grotto's fiery waterfall backdrops and molten-lava cooled platforms, to the Snowy Valley's glassy ice cliffs, Magical Quest still remains a looker to this day. Graphically, Magical Quest is, by most counts, the superior of the two. Both are solid platformers in their own right, and I find that each excels at certain areas more than the other. =)Īs for the topic on hand, as mentioned, I do love and appreciate both games. Still, nothing triggers nostalgia quite like the 16-bit console wars of yesteryear. ![]() ![]() ![]() Can You Actually Improve Your Odds of Buying a Winning Scratch Card? Otherwise, you’ll definitely end up with a worthless piece of plastic that would do absolutely nothing for your odds of winning the lottery. Also, what database is the scanner using to give you information? You should be asking yourself such questions before investing in anything. The problem with such scanners is that they will need to scan the serial number that’s printed underneath the latex ink. That’s a definite small investment if it could give you a winning ticket, right? Some Chinese manufacturers make lottery ticket scanners available for as little as 20 dollars. These are readily available from numerous websites. If you’ve done a bit of research on the topic, you’ve probably seen scratch-off ticket scanners on the market. Once you scratch off the serial code area, you’re already in possession of the ticket and that’s when you’ll know if you’ve won anything. This is a security measure that’s undertaken for the exact same reason of keeping people from attempting to scam the lottery. The problem is that the serial number is covered by the same latex ink that is put over all of the other scratch-off areas. The operator will know exactly how much the ticket is worth and what price will have to be paid without needing to check the symbols. The serial number is unique for each scratch-off ticket. Some believe it’s possible to tell if a ticket is a winner by the serial number printed at the bottom of the scratch-off card.Īnd that’s actually the case. Now that we have the facts out of the way, we can look at what people have done in their attempts to crack the scratch-off code. There’s no way to see through latex, no matter what experiments you subject it to. It’s completely opaque before you scratch it. Usually, the material that’s placed on top of the sensitive information is latex. Sorry to disappoint you but that’s just the way things are!Īlso, there’s no way to actually “see” through the scratch portion of the card in order to determine exactly what symbol it hides. If there’s any irregularity in the appearance of a ticket, that could be attributed to a glitch rather than an actual sign from destiny. Hence, it’s impossible to tell the difference between a winning one and all of the others. Scratch-off tickets are printed in batches, using the same inks, materials, and paper. If there were such a strategy, nobody would be buying dozens and dozens of tickets that aren’t worth anything. There’s no actual, practical, and 100 percent foolproof way of telling whether a lotto ticket is a winning one. Without further ado, let’s answer the most important question. We’ll take a look at the most popular ones and try to determine if it’s really possible to get your hands on a scratch-off ticket that’s a definite winner. There are dozens of theories out there about eventual giveaways. ![]() ![]() ![]() If somebody wants to tap your connection, they can still do so - they just have to do so at a different point (ie. VPNs can't magically encrypt your traffic - it's simply not technically possible. If the endpoint expects plaintext, there is nothing you can do about that. Marketers will almost always use some kind of other metric to identify and distinguish you. There are roughly two usecases where you might want to use a VPN: That can be anything from a useragent to a fingerprinting profile. You are on a known-hostile network (eg.a public airport WiFi access point, or an ISP that is known to use MITM), and you want to work around that. You want to hide your IP from a very specific set of non-government-sanctioned adversaries - for example, circumventing a ban in a chatroom or preventing anti-piracy scareletters. In the second case, you'd probably just want a regular proxy specifically for that traffic - sending all of your traffic over a VPN provider (like is the default with almost every VPN client) will still result in the provider being able to snoop on and mess with your traffic. It was artist Bob Thomas who put the bears in a circle around the back cover. It was also the first release of music from what Owsley called his Sonic Journals, vérité documents of his work as a sound engineer. It was a tribute to Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, who’d passed away that spring. The bears that you know first appeared in July 1973 on the Grateful Dead live album, The History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One: Bear’s Choice. But, as you may have noticed, there sure are a lot of them. That’s a lot for some little cuddly bears. In addition to being the Grateful Dead’s first in-house audio engineer and a pioneer who helped transform live concert sound, Owsley was also the most legendary underground LSD chemist in history, a story inseparable from the history of the Dead - and, for that matter, perhaps the entirety of Western culture over the past half-century. And they’re some excellent tracks to leave behind. Owsley Stanley, also known as the Bear, or just Bear, made many tapes. He was born Augustus Owsley Stanley III in 1935, though he hated the “Augustus” and had it legally changed later on. The Bear in question is also the person responsible for that recording and many more, by the Grateful Dead and others.
